Public Works 

The Public Works Department is a division within the Department of Engineering & Infrastructure Operations (E&IO). Other departments within E&IO are Engineering, Sewer, and Parking Operations. 

Duties 

Public Works is responsible for the following municipal operations: 

  • Routine maintenance of municipal roadways, storm sewers, shared use pathways, bus shelters, and other facilities within the municipal right-of-way (ROW)
  • Collection of waste from public trash receptacles in the central business district, bus shelters, and other neighborhood locations
  • Maintenance of landscaping and benches in the central business district
  • Collection of branches, leaves and logs for recycling at the Joseph H. Maher Ecological Facility in coordination with Lawrence Township
  • Removal of snow and ice from municipal roadways
  • Planting and maintenance of trees in the public ROW, parks, open space and other municipally-owned lands
  • Management of the tree removal and replacement permit program for private property

Report a Pothole

Report a pothole on a municipal street.

If you see a pothole or any other road maintenance issue on Route 27 (Nassau Street) or Route 206 (Stockton Street, Bayard Laneor State Road) please report that to the New Jersey Department of Transportation online or call 800-762-4653.

Roadways Maintained by Mercer County

The following roadways are maintained by Mercer County:

  • Elm Road from Route 206 (Stockton) to Rosedale Road
  • River Road from Route 27 to the County line with Somerset (.55 mile north of Herrontown Road)
  • Rosedale Road from Elm Road to Province Line Road
  • South Harrison Street from the area of Western Way to the bridge over the canal
  • Washington Road from the area of Ivy Lane to the bridge over the canal
